Checking outdated LinkedIn roles; edit company descriptions

Check stale role dates and company descriptions, then route each correction to the member or authorised Page owner.

On LinkedIn, an Experience position needs checking when the member confirms the role ended but the entry still presents it as current, or when its organisation, relationship, title, dates or work conflict with what the member confirms. For a Page, compare the description with current facts confirmed by the Page owner or another authorised person.

Establish what changed

Check each Experience entry against the member’s confirmation: is the position still current, and do its organisation, relationship, title, dates and work match? Treat a disputed detail as unresolved until the member confirms it.

Read the Page description for statements about the organisation’s name, services, audience or commitments. A service described as available is outdated if the Page owner confirms it has ended.

Correct the right record

An Experience entry records a person’s relationship with an organisation; a LinkedIn Page description describes the organisation. Correct each record separately.

To end a role, the member opens the LinkedIn profile’s Experience section and edits the position. They clear “I currently work here”, add the end date and save; they can also edit other confirmed incorrect details in that entry.

To correct an organisation description, the Page owner opens the LinkedIn Page’s admin tools, chooses “Edit Page”, updates the description to match confirmed facts and saves. Remove wording that presents a service as currently available if the organisation no longer offers it.

If you do not have access to make the Page change, send the owner the exact wording that needs correction. A Page update does not change a member’s Experience entry.

Check connected fields

View the edited Experience entry and Page description as a visitor. The ended role should no longer appear current, and a service that has ended should not read as currently available.

If the same outdated claim appears elsewhere on the profile, check that wording separately.
